Lauri Reijonen

I’m attorney Lauri Reijonen. I was born and raised in Finland but I’ve lived in the states for about 20 years, hence the name is a little different. I went to school in the states, got my undergrad as well as my law degree from American University and I moved to Arizona after I graduated from law school in 2004. I’ve been practicing here for about 12 years now. I started with a large law firm, Davis Miles, who had over 50 attorneys and then after seven years I decided it was time to go on my own. My practice focuses on mainly personal injury. I do also a little bit of bankruptcies, I do contracts for a few local businesses. Small businesses, mainly family owned businesses. I also do a little bit of family based and employment based immigration. The reason why I’m focusing mainly on consumer law such as personal injuries is because tables are tilted heavily towards the corporations. The insurance companies, they have the money and they have the power and the regular people they often get the short end of the stick. I think somebody needs to look out for the little guy.

What do you love about being an attorney?

When I can help somebody. Knowing that I’ve helped them, I’ve done a good job, they are happy and I’ve built a relationship that will last. That’s what I really enjoy. If I can have a happy client who feels that they got the best deal that they could ever have gotten. That’s, that’s what I really strive for. That’s why I want to do law.

Do you have any hobbies?

Yeah, I do quite a lot of sports. I actually will do a Mesa Spring Triathlon this coming Saturday. Just a spring triathlon, I don’t do Iron Mans, I don’t have the time for that, but the spring triathlon they don’t require as much time to prepare for them. Generally I do a lot of sports. I’m also active in the scouts. I read a lot. Not just law books and case law but for enjoyment also.

Do you have advice for an aspiring entrepreneur?

I think anybody that wants to open their own business, they should first find out what the market needs or wants and how they can best serve the clients. Because money shouldn’t be the sole motivator. Or even the major motivator. Giving a good product or service should be the number one thing. Once you can reach that, the clients will come. Because people know who will do a good job for them and who doesn’t do as good a job. You should really be able to care for your clients. Care for your customers. So if you can’t do that, then you are better off doing something else than opening your own business.
